How to Make Essential Oil Candles
Creating essential oil candles is a wonderful way to add ambiance and aroma to your home, while also enjoying the benefits of aromatherapy. Follow these simple steps:
Materials Needed:
- Wax (soy, beeswax, or paraffin)
- Essential oils of your choice
- Candle wicks
- Double boiler or microwave-safe container
- Pouring pitcher or heatproof container
- Thermometer
- Candle molds or jars
Steps:
- Melt the Wax: Use a double boiler to melt the wax gradually. If using a microwave, heat in short intervals to avoid overheating.
- Add Essential Oils: Once the wax is melted, let it cool to about 185°F (85°C) before adding your essential oils. A general guideline is to use 1 oz of essential oil per 1 lb of wax.
- Prepare the Wicks: Attach the wicks to the bottom of your molds or jars using a small amount of melted wax or wick stickers.
- Pour the Mixture: Slowly pour the wax mixture into your prepared containers, leaving a small space at the top.
- Secure the Wicks: Use a wick holder to keep the wicks centered as the wax cools.
- Cool and Trim: Allow the candles to cool completely before trimming the wicks to about ¼ inch.
Enjoy your homemade essential oil candles, and remember to experiment with different essential oils to find your perfect scent combinations!
