Do You Have Any Pre-Show Rituals?
As an artist, the hours leading up to a show are both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. To channel that energy in a positive direction, I have developed a series of pre-show rituals that help me focus and prepare.
Firstly, I like to take some quiet time to meditate. This allows me to center myself and clear my mind of any distractions. I find that even a few minutes can make a significant difference in my mental state. Following that, I typically engage in a light physical warm-up. Stretching and some simple exercises help me to release tension and feel more connected to my body.
Another vital aspect of my pre-show routine is vocal warm-ups. Regardless of how well I’ve prepared, warming up my voice is essential to ensure I can deliver my best performance. I may also have a small, energizing snack—like a banana or a handful of nuts—to keep my energy levels up.
Often, I gather with my band for a quick meeting. We discuss the setlist and any last-minute changes, fostering a sense of unity and team spirit. Finally, I like to visualize the performance, picturing the audience's energy and the connection I want to establish with them. This ritual not only boosts my confidence but also reminds me of why I love performing.
These routines are personal and tailored to my needs, and they help me step onto the stage feeling empowered and ready to share my music.
